The unique history of the Comox Valley

The Comox Valley is the traditional territory of the Puntledge, E’iksan and K’ómoks peoples. Today the three tribes are known as the K’ómoks First Nation. Comox, Courtenay and Cumberland are the three main communities that make up the Valley, stretching from mountains to sea. The Town of Comox is a seaside community that attracts recreational mariners to the Comox Marina where the catch of the day is only a cast away. Courtenay is the Comox Valley’s largest urban centre, where you’ll find urban amenities wrapped in small town charm and character. Cumberland celebrates its coal mining past while embracing the hip and contemporary.

01. K’ómoks First Nation

Mount Washington Alpine Resort is a year-round recreation destination  and receives some of the biggest snowfalls in North America.

06. Merville

Merville is a friendly hamlet 13 km from Courtenay in the Comox Valley, and turned 100 in 2019. This region was previously a logging hub.

07. Black Creek & Saratoga

Just 20 kms north of Courtenay, Black Creek & Seratoga offer a tranquil escape with scenic trails, serene waterways, and a relaxed rural atmosphere.

08. Union Bay

Union Bay is a small seaside community on the east coast of Vancouver Island that formerly a major shipping port for the mines in Cumberland.

09. Fanny Bay & Royston

Fanny Bay & Royston are small seaside villages that overlook the Salish Sea and the Gulf Islands with the Coastal mountains as a backdrop.
